HONG KONG, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- Chinese action star Jet Li was among those who escaped the tsunami in the Maldives, rescuing his daughter as the waters swept through the lobby of his hotel.

Li, star of "Hero" and "Lethal Weapon 4," called his Hong Kong agent to report he was safe, China Daily reported Wednesday.

Hong Kong newspapers, quoting a friend who was vacationing with Li, said that the film star injured his foot slightly while grabbing his 4-year-old daughter to carry her to safety as waves flooded the lobby where they had been standing.
