Barbra Streisand fine after minor surgery

NEW YORK, Dec. 16 (UPI) -- Barbra Streisand was given a clean bill of health after doctors in New York removed a polyp from her colon, E! Online reported.

"During a routine colonoscopy earlier this year, Barbra Streisand's doctor discovered a benign polyp," said a statement from publicist Dick Guttman. "The removal of the single polyp was done earlier this month, and its benign nature was reaffirmed."

Polyps can sometimes signal colorectal cancer, but are treatable if caught early.

Guttman said Streisand, 62, delayed the minor surgery until she finished filming "Meet the Fockers," which comes out in U.S. theaters next week.

E! said Guttman released the statement Wednesday in response to bogus tabloid claims that Streisand was worried she had cancer.
