LONDON, Nov. 22 (UPI) -- Prince William and girlfriend Kate Middleton reportedly are cooling the relationship after more than a year together because the prince feels "claustrophobic."
William told Middleton he wants time off to prepare for his January exams, Britain's Daily Mail reported Monday.
Middleton reportedly is considering moving out of the house she and William share with a third student near St. Andrews University.
"During the summer he was moaning to his friends about how claustrophobic he was feeling in his relationship with Kate," said an unidentified close friend of the prince.
The relationship reportedly became more strained after William planned a boys-only sailing trip in Greece in September and hired an all-female crew.
"He had specifically said when he planned the trip ... Kate was not invited. Kate is a lovely girl but quite normal almost to the point of being square ... although William gives the impression of being shy, he likes the company of racy and outgoing girls," the friend said.
