OutKast, Usher win at MTV Europe awards

ROME, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- U.S. musicians OutKast, Usher and Britney Spears were the top winners at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Rome.

The hip-hop duo, OutKast, took three awards Thursday night, for best group and best video and song for "Hey Ya,!" Sky News reported Friday.

Usher beat out Robbie Williams, Justin Timberlake, Nelly and Jay-Z for the top male artist honor and also took home the best album award for "Confessions."

Spears triumphed in the top female artist category over Beyonce and Avril Lavigne.

Other winners included Black Eyed Peas as best pop act, D12 for top hip-hop group and Alicia Keys as top R&B artist.

Muse was named best alternative band, Linkin Park won for best rock group and Maroon5 was awarded best new act.

Winners were decided by 120 million MTV viewers across Europe.
