"Nueva Voces de America," or "New Voices of America," set to air in January from Miami Beach, Fla., will hold open auditions Saturday at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, N.Y., the New York Daily News reported Wednesday.
"I want something totally new and fresh when it comes to sound, voices and personality, because this is going to be a great window for the Latino community to showcase its talent. I don't want anybody who sings like Ricky Martin, or like Shakira or Gloria," Estefan said.
Estefan insists the show is not a clone of "American Idol."
"Having the contestants get ready for the judges is all going to be part of the show, so we'll be giving them makeovers, dance lessons and singing lessons on camera. It's going to be a lot of fun," he said.
Auditions will be held next week in Los Angels and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
