'60 Minutes' hires popular BET reporter

NEW YORK, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Black Entertainment Television reporter Ed Gordon, who snagged the first O.J. Simpson interview after the murder trial, has joined CBS' "60 Minutes Wednesday."

Gordon's first piece for the mid-week news magazine will air Wednesday when the 44-year-old reporter interviews Jamie Foxx, star of Ray Charles biography "Ray," the New York Post reported Tuesday.

"I worked with Don Hewitt this week, and to see Mike Wallace and Ed Bradley walking the halls, and talking with them, it's pretty heady," Gordon said of the veteran newsmen.

Details of the job are still undecided, but Gordon said he and producers have talked about 10 to 15 stories.

"I know they want me to do a combination of both news stories and show-biz profiles. I would like to think I'm best at the interview and I love profiles and love to do them," Gordon said.

"So few people get invited to this party. For years they've done such great storytelling -- and I love being a part of that," he said.
