LOS ANGELES, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- Actors David Carradine and Lou Ferrigno were among the guests celebrating Jack LaLanne's 90th birthday near the California beach the fitness guru made famous.
Friends gathered Saturday for a fete in honor of LaLanne, who turned 90 last month, at the Hotel Casa Del Mar near Muscle Beach, the Santa Monica, Calif., beach where LaLanne entertained visitors during the 1940s, MSNBC reported Monday.
"This was an incredible place. I was living in San Francisco and would drive all night to get here for the weekend, then perform acrobatic tricks on the beach. People would come from all over to see us; we were teaching kids how to get their bodies and minds active," LaLanne said of his Muscle Beach days.
LaLanne went on to host a TV exercise show from 1951-1985 and performed various feats, such as towing boats while swimming across Long Beach Harbor handcuffed.
Parties in New York and San Francisco, where LaLanne was born Sept. 26, 1914, preceded the California celebration.
LaLanne celebrated his milestone birthday by visiting his parents' birthplace in France and buying himself a Mercedes convertible, MSNBC said.
