TORONTO, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- The eldest son of former Canadian prime minister Pierre Trudeau is engaged to a former TV host, the Toronto Globe & Mail reported Friday.
Justin Trudeau, 32, announced his engagement to Sophie Gregoire, a brunette who many describe as "gorgeous."
Gregoire said in a 2001 magazine interview that she wanted her man to be "passionate and love life," and that she took to heart pop star Madonna's credo, "Don't go for second best."
Comparisons are already being drawn between the couple and John F. Kennedy Jr., the son of the slain U.S. president, and his wife Carolyn Bessette, who died together in a 1999 plane crash.
Trudeau is a former teacher, described as being independently wealthy and active in promoting a youth volunteer program. He and Gregoire have been dating since they met in June 2003.
Gregoire, believed to be between 29 and 31 years old, has done segments about animals, beauty and fashion on Quebec network TVA.
In the 2001 interview she said she has "no tolerance for cowardice" in men, and "doesn't like wet noodles."
