Prince's new video stirs controversy

MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Prince is creating a stir over his latest video about a girl who reacts to anti-Arab harassment by fantasizing about bombing a New York airport.

"Cinnamon Girl" has been a hot topic, with TV news and talk shows repeatedly showing the explosion scene, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported Wednesday.

"It's weird. I've seen just the explosion 10 different times on different news shows. It's a little disappointing that it's been reduced to just that," said Scott Wenner, a Minneapolis graphic artist who worked on the video.

MTV says it will air the entire video within the week, but other cable music networks are debating whether to broadcast it, the Pioneer Press said.

The clip can be viewed online at Launch.com.

The video, produced by Minneapolis' Harder/Fuller Films, stars Oscar-nominated teen actress Keisha Castle-Hughes. The footage combines a narrative storyline, a performance by Prince and watercolor scenery. Approximately 60 individual watercolors were used to animate the explosion, which lasts a few seconds on screen.

"Cinnamon Girl" is from Prince's "Musicology" CD.
