Boy George, Duran Duran out of Hall of Fame

LONDON, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- A panel of experts led by George Martin has excluded Boy George and Duran Duran from Britain's first music Hall of Fame, the Times of London learned.

The 1980s nominations will be revealed Sunday night and the public will be invited to choose the most worthy entrant after the panel, headed by the former Beatles record producer, decided on a short list of ten artists who will be considered for each decade.

The 10 nominations for the 1980s include: the Smiths, REM and Joy Division, the Times of London reported Saturday.

Critics of the nominations said that excluding Boy George and Duran Duran -- together the groups sold 100 million records -- was an omission akin to leaving out former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and the late Princess Diana from the history of the 1980s.
