Thousands protest British 'Farm' show

LONDON, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Thousands of British viewers protested Channel Five's airing an episode of "The Farm" showing Rebecca Loos stimulating a boar to collect a flask of semen.

Loos, who became famous after claiming an affair with soccer star David Beckham, created the uproar over her stunt on the reality show, Britain's Sun reported Friday.

"To use so-called celebrities to carry out acts on innocent animals is sordid and disgraceful," Catherine Drye, from Dewsbury, Yorks, said on the Sun's "You The Jury" phone line.

Drye's call was one of 2,897 complaining about the Tuesday night episode, with 707 calls supporting the show.

A Leicestershire, England, farmer's wife, however, said the episode was realistic.

"Wake up Britain. These practices are normal in regular farming life," the unidentified caller said.

A Channel Five spokesperson defended the show.

"Rebecca Loos was trained and shown exactly what to do in advance and our vet was monitoring the entire process," the spokesperson said.
