Matthew Perry, director

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Matthew Perry will make his directing debut, calling the shots on an episode of NBC's medical comedy "Scrubs," Daily Variety said Friday.

The paper said the former star of "Friends" will direct and star in an episode of the comedy set to air during the November sweeps. He'll play a man who is willing to donate a kidney to his father -- until complications arise.

Perry's father, actor John Perry, will play his father in the episode.

"Scrubs" creator Bill Lawrence told Variety Perry shouldn't worry about first-time directing jitters.

"The guy's timing is ridiculous," said Lawrence, "and our show is all timing-based."

Julianna Margulies, who formerly starred in NBC's medical drama "ER," is scheduled to guest-star in two episodes of "Scrubs" during the November sweeps.
