NEW YORK, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- A celebrity concert at New York's Lincoln Center raised $300,000 for the American Civil Liberties Union, the organization said Wednesday.
The Monday night concert at Avery Fisher Hall -- produced by composer Philip Glass -- featured Robin Williams, Paul Simon, Wyclef Jean, Patti Smith, Nanci Griffith and the Black Keys. The celebrity line-up also included Mos Def, Richard Gere, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jake Gyllenhaal, Lou Reed, Jessica Lange and playwright Tony Kushner.
Simon sang "Love Me Like a Rock" with the Dixie Hummingbirds and Reed performed his signature hit "Walk on the Wild Side."
Williams, Lange and Gere -- along with other actors -- performed monologues and sketches dealing with landmark U.S. Supreme Court decisions on civil liberties.
Wyclef Jean closed the show with his take on the Jimi Hendrix arrangement of "The Star Spangled Banner."
