'Fantastic Four' headed for drawing board

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- Marvel and French animator Antefilms Productions will produce an animated series based on the "Fantastic Four" comic book series.

Daily Variety said the two companies will produce 26 half-hour episodes and make them available for distribution beginning in the fall of 2006. The movie version of the "Fantastic Four" is due in theaters in 2005.

Marvel head Avi Arad said the company planned to market the characters in film, DVD, video game and TV animation. Activision plans to release the video game at the same time as the movie opens and the animated series would premiere after the movie has been released on DVD.

"In between our movie and hopefully its sequels, we will continue to support the brand with DVDs and merchandise and TV series," Arad said.
