Fox shifts 'Champ' to Fox Sports Network

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Fox is shifting its reality boxing show "The Next Great Champ" from its Fox Network prime time slot to Fox Sports Net, network officials announced Monday.

The show -- produced by former boxing champion Oscar De La Hoya and Endemol USA -- had aired Wednesdays, but did not attract enough viewers to warrant keeping it on the Fox Network in prime time.

"'The Next Great Champ' is a compelling, well-produced series," said Gail Berman, Fox Broadcasting Company's entertainment division president. "Unfortunately, despite its loyal core audience, the underlying boxing theme of the series has proved too narrow for us."

George Greenberg, FSN executive vice president for programming and production, said the cable outlet has had success with "Sunday Night Fights," and he expected "Champ" to be a good fit in its new Sunday night slot.

"We plan to promote the series heavily on FSN," said Greenberg, "and expect it to do very well for us."

The show -- which had its final airing on Fox Sept. 28 -- is scheduled to have an Oct. 10 marathon showing on FSN, featuring episodes already aired on Fox. Beginning Oct. 17, viewers will see previously un-aired episodes.
