SNL Weekend Update anchored by two women

NEW YORK, Oct. 2 (UPI) -- NBC's "Saturday Night Live" will feature a Weekend Update news segment in New York anchored Saturday for the first time by two women.

Sources told the Chicago Sun-Times the season premier Saturday, will have Tina Fey joined on the Weekend Update set by her Chicago improv colleague, Amy Poehler.

The opening occurred when Jimmy Fallon, Fey's co-anchor since 2000, left the show last spring.

Fey, who is also is one of the two head writers on "Saturday Night Live," has known Poehler since they were the lone women at Chicago's ImprovOlympic during the early 1990s.

In her hit movie, "Mean Girls," Fey wrote a role for Poehler as the approval-craving mother of a hip teen girl.

Poehler begins her fourth season on "Saturday Night Live" and her roster of impersonations includes: Kelly Ripa, Sharon Osbourne, Avril Lavigne and Michael Jackson.

Actor Ben Affleck will host the season's premiere show with Nelly as musical guest.
