Usher to star in feature film

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- R&B singer Usher is to make his feature film debut, playing a kid from the streets who finds himself through his music, Daily Variety said Thursday.

The paper said Dimension Films is developing the untitled project for the singer, whose full name is Usher Raymond. It's being written by Jonathan Prince ("American Dreams"). Usher -- whose most recent CD "Confessions" is one of the top-selling records of 2004 -- will executive produce the picture.

Miramax co-chairman and Dimension head Bob Weinstein said the movie is on the fast track at the studio.

"Usher has clearly proven himself as a musical superstar," Weinstein said in a statement. "We have a longstanding relationship and know this film will showcase all of his talents in his first starring role."

Usher's previous screen credits include roles in "The Faculty," "She's All That" and "Soul Food." He appeared as Marvin Gaye on an episode of "American Dreams."
