Mariah Carey to star in sitcom

NEW YORK, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- Mariah Carey reportedly is set to star in her own U.S. sitcom three years after the pop star's disastrous film debut ended with a meltdown.

Carey, 34, met with UPN executives to discuss her new TV venture, with unidentified insiders saying the singer is "very funny and has a lot of acting talent," Teenhollywood.com reported Monday.

Carey's last foray into acting in 2001, as the star of "Glitter," was a box office flop as well as resulting in the singer's emotional breakdown.

"I'm honestly really, really delirious and stressed out and overworked and doing too much. I haven't slept in, like, two weeks. I want my fans to know that this is a freaking, complete clown-fest," Carey said three years ago while in the midst of filming "Glitter" and two months before checking into a New York hospital.
