'Batman' has two composers

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard are in talks to collaborate on the score for Warner Bros. Pictures' "Batman Begins," The Hollywood Reporter said Friday.

It is relatively rare for two composers to write a movie score together, although composers often contribute separate bits to scores. A spokesman for Howard told the paper that he and Zimmer -- longtime friends, as well as two of the most sought-after composers in Hollywood -- will "very likely" collaborate on the Batman movie, but no deal will be formalized until "closer toward January." A spokesman for Zimmer said only that that "Batman" is a sensitive project and the composers' "schedules are hectic."

"Batman Begins," starring Christian Bale as the Caped Crusader, is due in U.S. theaters on June 17, 2005. Christopher Nolan ("Memento") is directing from a screenplay he wrote with David S. Goyer ("Blade," "The Crow: City of Angels").
