Kidman film spurs Venice Film Fest protest

VENICE, Italy, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Nicole Kidman's film, "Birth," about a woman who falls in love with a boy she believes to be her reincarnated husband, provoked Venice Film Festival protests.

The film premiered Wednesday at Italy's film event, but the movie had already garnered boos from journalists who previewed the film earlier, Sky News said.

The film centers on the relationship between Anna, Kidman's character, and 10-year-old Sean, played by Cameron Bright, 11.

In one scene, Kidman and Bright are naked while bathing together.

Organizers promised tightened security for Wednesday's screening after a week of hoax bomb threats and demonstrations by protesters denouncing Hollywood's large presence at the festival.

"Birth," which also co-stars Lauren Bacall, is a front runner for the festival's prestigious Golden Lion award.
