LOS ANGELES, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- A lawsuit filed by a former model against a Los Angeles dermatologist claims he injected her with Botox for migraines, an unapproved use for the drug.
Irena Medavoy, wife of film producer Mike Medavoy, filed the suit claiming Dr. Arnold Klein's relationship with Allergan -- Botox's manufacturer -- influenced his decision to use the drug on her in an unauthorized manner, ABC reported.
After using Botox for her wrinkles, Medavoy said Klein suggested using the drug for her migraine headaches, a use the Food and Drug Administration has not yet approved.
Medavoy said she suffered debilitating side effects from the Botox injections.
Medavoy blamed the drug's misuse on Klein's $100,000 per year consultant position with Allergan.
"Dr. Klein absolutely has a financial relationship with Allergan ... Pharmaceutical companies will contract with physicians, pay them a lot of money essentially to use them to expand the use of an FDA-approved drug into non-FDA approved uses, and it was an issue that was never disclosed to Irena (Medavoy)," said Jeffrey Benice, Medavoy's attorney.
