LOS ANGELES, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- "Jeopardy" returned Monday for its 21st season, with returning champion Ken Jennings, a Salt Lake City software engineer, winning for the 39th time.
Jennings, who normally wagers conservatively in the final round, bet $21,599 but answered the question wrong. However, his remaining $10,001 was more than enough to win, again.
None of the three contestants knew the question to the answer: "In 2002, the Library of Congress had William B. Jones Jr., speak on the 1941-1971 comic book series in its collection."
The answer was: "Classics Illustrated" comics. The comic book series did comics-style versions of literary works such as Homer's "Odyssey" and Shakespeare's "Hamlet."
Betsy Casman of Las Vegas had $3,200 and J.D. Smith of Washington, had $3599 at the end of the game.
Jennings has won $1,331,661 playing the syndicated television game show.
Host Alex Trebek asked Jennings what he planned to do with his winnings.
"It's starting to be a lot of money, but I think we'll travel a lot," Jennings said.
