LOS ANGELES, Aug. 27 (UPI) -- Kevin Sorbo, best known as TV's "Hercules," has signed a deal with ABC to develop his own sitcom, the New York Post reported Friday.
"I love the sitcom format. I like the experience of doing a miniature play each week. I'm not Jerry Lewis. I don't really do the fall-down stuff. I like the kind of observational humor that George Carlin does," Sorbo said.
"They can surround me with wacky (characters), and I'll be the sane one who anchors the group," Sorbo said, adding he had met with writers and producers to discuss ideas, including a show along the lines of "Coach."
"Gene Roddenberry: Andromeda," which Sorbo has starred in since 2000, ends its run this season, freeing Sorbo up for other projects.
Before "Andromeda," Sorbo starred on "Hercules: The Legendary Journey" from 1995 to 1999.
Sorbo's sitcom could hit the airwaves as early as fall 2005.
