USDA wants 'Siegfried and Roy' maul tape

LAS VEGAS, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- The U.S. government wants to review a tape of the near fatal mauling at "Siegfried and Roy's" final show last year, but producers refuse to give up the video.

The Department of Agriculture, investigating the incident for Animal Welfare Act violations, sent two subpoenas to Feld Entertainment, which produced the Las Vegas magic show, but has not yet received the video, E! Online reported Thursday.

"An investigation doesn't mean something bad's going to happen. We just need to determine if any of our regulations were violated," said Jim Rogers, USDA spokesman.

Roy Horn was critically injured during an Oct. 3 performance by Montecore, Horn's beloved 300-pound white tiger.

Horn remains in a wheelchair and the show was permanently closed.

Horn and Siegfried Fischbacher are set to debut Tuesday in animated form on NBC's sitcom "Father of the Pride," loosely based on Siegfried and Roy's show animals.
