Wayans brothers will remake 'Munsters'

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Universal Pictures has made a deal with Keenen Ivory, Shawn and Marlon Wayans for an updated take on "The Munsters," Daily Variety said Tuesday.

The paper said the deal is unusual for the Wayans brothers, in that they do not intend to star in the project, as they typically do in their movies. No director has been chosen, but Variety said it is possible Keenen Ivory Wayans will direct.

Universal Television produced the original "Munsters" TV series from 1964-66, starring Fred Gwynne, Yvonne De Carlo, Al Lewis and Butch Patrick as a collection of movie monster-types doing their best to live as a modern American family. The show, which still runs in syndication, has had several revivals -- including the 1988 series "The Munsters Today" and the 1995 TV movie "Here Come the Munsters."
