Ex-Libertines Pete Doherty attacked

LONDON, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Pete Doherty reportedly is recovering at his London home after thugs attacked the ex-Libertines singer, beating and kicking him before he flagged down help.

Doherty suffered severe cuts and bruises from the East London attack, with the singer also being hit by a car during the weekend incident, but did not need to go to the hospital, XFM reported Monday.

Doherty, who was axed from the Libertines because of his drug addiction, wrote about the attack on his Web site.

"A fella in a baseball cap and Irish accent engages us in a tabloid exchange -- calls me a crackhead and says he's gonna break my nose and stick a knife in my kneck (sic). He just flares up over nothing and all horror breaks out of guarded cage, darkness in the downs shocked tempered sunlight," the musician wrote.

Since leaving the Libertines, Doherty has been in and out of court on charges he illegally possessed a knife.

The singer currently is set to tour in November throughout Britain with the Babyshambles.
