Reese bares pregnant belly in new film

NEW YORK, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Hollywood actress Reese Witherspoon says she had no problem baring her pregnant belly in a poignant scene in the new period film, "Vanity Fair."

Witherspoon was pregnant with her second child by actor/husband Ryan Phillippe while she was playing Becky Sharp in Mira Nair's screen adaptation of the classic 19th Century novel.

Although the actress does not appear pregnant in most of the film, which takes place over about two decades, she shows off an enormous stomach in a scene in which her character bids farewell to her husband as he heads off to war.

"The great thing about working with Mira Nair and the reason I was so attracted to her work is that she has this way of putting sexuality in her films in a way so that it's not gratuitous and it's not overt," Witherspoon recently said in New York. "It's very female, the sensuality."

"It has a lot to do with color and mood and lighting and so, I felt very comfortable with her," she added. "So, when she said, 'I really want to make sure we make the most of your body and show your pregnant belly,' I just didn't feel nervous at all."
