LEICESTER, England, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- An unpublished poem written by British poet Philip Larkin in the late 1940s about his father's death has been found in a university library archives.
"And Yet" was discovered by Donald Lee, a Larkin enthusiast and member of the Philip Larkin Society, in the archives of Leicester University in Leicester, Britain, the Times of London reported Tuesday.
"It's a very good poem. ... Anything by Larkin is of interest to literary people," said James Booth, literary adviser to the Philip Larkin Society, and English professor at the University of Hull, where Larkin once worked as librarian.
The poem describes the devastating impact on Larkin when his father died in 1948.
Larkin was assistant librarian at Leicester from 1946 to 1950. "And Yet," as well his famous 12-line elegy to his father, "An April Sunday Brings the Snow," were written during this period, when he was living at 6 College Street in the city, the Times said.
Larkin died in 1985.
