Bobby Brown booked on assault charge

ATLANTA, July 12 (UPI) -- R&B singer Bobby Brown showed up at a Fulton County, Ga., jail to be booked on charges he hit his wife, just hours before the deadline imposed by the judge.

With four hours to spare, Brown turned himself in Sunday night, meeting the cut off given in May by a judge who ruled there was enough evidence to hold Brown for trial and who gave the singer until July 11 to remand himself, Entertainment Tonight reported Monday.

Brown was photographed, fingerprinted and posted a $2,000 bond in the misdemeanor simple battery charge stemming from a December altercation with Whitney Houston at their Atlanta home.

If convicted, Brown could spend a year in jail and be fined up to $1,000.
