Stars show up for 'Shrek 2' British debut

LONDON, June 29 (UPI) -- Julie Andrews, Antonio Banderas and John Cleese were among the stars who turned out on the green carpet for the London premiere of "Shrek 2."

Rupert Everett, who is the voice of Prince Charming, and Jennifer Saunders, the Fairy Godmother, also walked the green carpet -- in honor of the famous ogre -- at Monday's Leicester Square event, Daily Mail reported Tuesday.

The film has grossed $350 million since its U.S. premiere in May, more than five times the cost of making the sequel.

Three of the film's top stars, Mike Myers, who voices Shrek; Eddie Murphy, who plays Donkey; and Princess Fiona's Cameron Diaz; did not attend the premiere.

Andrews, in her first voice over role, played the princess' mother, Queen Lillian, Antonio Banderas voiced Puss in Boots, and John Cleese portrayed King Harold.

Celebrities who attended the charity premiere as guests included Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher and son Gene, and Jade Jagger.
