'King Arthur' gets a PG-13 rating

LOS ANGELES, June 25 (UPI) -- When "King Arthur" arrives in theaters July 7, it will carry a PG-13 rating, Daily Variety reported Friday.

The paper said the Motion Picture Association of America decided on the rating after Disney trimmed some violence from the movie's climactic battle scenes. According to Variety, the move is something of a surprise, since producer Jerry Bruckheimer said last year he would deliver an R-rated movie.

"Audiences want to see something that's real," said Bruckheimer."They don't want to cut away."

Disney spokesman Dennis Rice told Variety the decision to go for PG-13 is in keeping with the studio's aim to appeal to a wide audience.

"We've always felt it was advantageous to go for as wide an appeal as possible with a big summer film like this," said Rice.
