Jessica Simpson hospitalized, gig canceled

PROVIDENCE, R.I., June 23 (UPI) -- Jessica Simpson canceled a Providence, R.I., show after being hospitalized with a kidney infection just hours before she was to take the stage.

Tuesday's show at the Dunkin' Donuts Center was called off when Simpson was taken to an undisclosed hospital to be treated for the infection, the Providence Journal reported Wednesday.

The singer was released from the hospital Tuesday evening, but it was unknown whether she stayed in Providence or traveled to Manchester, N.H., where she was scheduled to continue her tour Wednesday.

Efforts were being made to reschedule the Providence show, the Journal said.

Simpson issued a statement through Columbia Records saying she was disappointed by the cancellation.

"I'm having the best time doing this tour and I'm so disappointed that I have to miss tonight's show," she said. "I appreciate everyone's get well wishes and, as soon as my doctor says it's OK, I'll be back on stage, doing what I love. I hope to see my fans in Rhode Island soon."
