LOS ANGELES, June 18 (UPI) -- Ryan Reynolds is in final talks to star in a remake of the 1979 thriller "The Amityville Horror," Daily Variety said Friday.
Plans call for shooting to start this summer on the story of a dream house that turns out to be a nightmare because it is cursed by a tragedy that occurred within its walls. James Brolin and Margot Kidder starred in the original movie, based on a purportedly true-life account written by Jay Anson.
Music video and commercials director Andrew Douglas is to make his feature directing debut on the project.
Variety said Reynolds -- the star of "Van Wilder" -- is also in talks to join Amy Smart in the cast of a romantic comedy, "Just Friends." Reynolds would play a record executive who reunites with his best friend and discovers that she is the woman for him.
