LOS ANGELES, June 14 (UPI) -- Director Nick Cassavetes, whose new movie "The Notebook" opens Friday, will direct a science fiction movie starring John Cusack, Daily Vatiety said Monday.
"The Martian Child," based on a short story by David Gerrold, is described as a mix of "E.T." and "Parenthood." Cusack will play a man who, devsastated by the death of his fiancée, adopts a 6-year-old -- who is convinced he is from Mars.

"The Notebook" stars Rachel McAdams, Ryan Gosling, Gena Rowlands and James Garner in the story of idealized romance in the American South that begins in the 1930s and ends in a nursing home in the '90s.
