Irish vodka backs Black 47 U.S. tour

NEW YORK, May 31 (UPI) -- Boru Vodka has teamed with Black 47 as sponsor of the Irish-American rock band's U.S. summer tour and fall Ireland dates.

Boru Vodka, distributed by Great Spirits Drinks Company of Queens, N.Y., will expand its promotion this summer by underwriting the band's gigs, Irish Echo reported Monday, in what the band is calling a mutually beneficial arrangement.

"Boru is helping us to tour harder-to-reach places," said Larry Kirwan, Black 47's lead singer.

"Basically, Boru told us to continue what we were doing and that they'd help us. You can't ask better than that," Kirwan said.

Kirwan said the band was limited in touring "between Minneapolis and the West Coast itself," because of the costs, but that the new sponsorship will offset those expenses.

Kirwan said he is more of a whisky drinker but said he and his bandmates are taking to the Irish vodka named for the country's first king, Brian Boru.
