Richard Simmons assault charge dismissed

PHOENIX, May 26 (UPI) -- The assault charge against fitness guru Richard Simmons has been dismissed in a Phoenix, Ariz., court, it was reported Wednesday.

A Phoenix judge dismissed the charges Friday against Simmons, who allegedly slapped a man at an Arizona airport for insulting him, as part of a "misdemeanor compromise" requested last week by victim Chris Farney and signed off on by the city prosecutor, the Smoking Gun Web site said.

Such an arrangement can include monetary compensation, but Farney's attorney declined say whether his client had been paid.

Simmons, 54, was arrested in March for hitting Farney, 23, after Farney yelled "Look, Richard Simmons. Drop your bags, let's rock to the 50's."

Prior to the slap, Simmons reportedly said "It's not nice to make fun of people with issues."
