New gig for Noah Wyle

LOS ANGELES, May 25 (UPI) -- Noah Wyle will play a mild-mannered superhero in "The Librarian," a TNT original movie, Daily Variety reported Tuesday.

Wyle, who has played Dr. John Carter on "ER" in each of the show's 10 seasons on NBC, will play a librarian who happens to get involved in high adventure.

"Instead of a muscle-bound, spandex-clad superman, we get an insecure but brilliant guy who thinks he's taking a safe job as a librarian, but instead gets taken on a ride in a world we'd like to believe exists," said Michael Wright, TNT's senior vice president of original programming.

Wyle told Variety he isn't sure what he will do after his contract for "ER" expires, following the show's upcoming 11th season.

"Alan Alda went 11 seasons with 'M*A*S*H,' so there seems a certain doctor symmetry there," he said. "It'll be a tough job to leave if I decide to do that, because the show has retained its vitality and the money is fantastic."
