'Diamond Dead' director clarifies film

LOS ANGELES, May 21 (UPI) -- The producer for "Diamond Dead," a black comedy that may star Marilyn Manson as Jesus, wants to clear up the misconception that the film is anti-Christian.

The film's Web site has been flooded with protests since news came out May 11 about Manson's possible involvement and that the film is about a rock and roll band that makes a deal with the devil, Andrew Gaty told UPI Thursday.

"The devil is not even in the script," Gaty said. "In fact, it is a rock and roll comedy, directed by George Romero and music by Richard Hartley, composer of the 'Rocky Horror Picture Show.'

"We have now been besieged by all sorts of Christian groups vowing to stop the production of the film. My phone has not stopped ringing, and I am afraid that this could get out of hand," Gaty said.

The film, according to www.diamonddead.com, revolves around a garage band and female singer who wants to sing with the guys. When the woman unintentionally kills the entire band, she makes a deal with Death to bring them back. When the guys return as zombies, Death arranges to magically make the musicians big stars.
