David Letterman gets up early for show

NEW YORK, May 7 (UPI) -- "The Late Show with David Letterman" producers have decided to try an early morning version of the popular U.S. talk show by taping an episode at 4 a.m.

"The Late Show" will tape its May 14 episode before dawn in front a studio audience at New York's Ed Sullivan Theater, the New York Post reported Friday.

"It's just a silly idea, and an idea that appealed to us," said Executive Producer Rob Burnett. "The city is an interesting place, particularly at 4 a.m. ... We'll absolutely do a remote and we'll probably have some kind of quiz about the city at 4 a.m. and lots of shots of the city."

The tape will air later that day in the show's regular time slot on CBS.
