French actress to publish diaries

PARIS, April 16 (UPI) -- A collection of diaries from French actress Catherine Deneuve will reach bookshelves next week, to less than critical acclaim, the Telegraph reported Friday.

"L'ombre de moi-meme," translated as "In the Shadow of Myself," is a collection of personal thoughts from the sets of six films in which Deneuve starred.

Deneuve, who never performed live theater due to stage fright, said she was worried about the impact and reception of her work. "I feel something like panic," she said.

Some of the early reviews reveal that Deneuve's worries may well be warrented. "The legend is shattered," said an unsigned criticism. The "syrupy, banal" diaries were referred to as the "first faux-pas" in the actress' career.

"If I had known that these notebooks would one day be published I would never have written them. The problem with a book is that you never know who will get their hands on it," Deneuve said.
