Kurt Cobain still mourned 10 years later

SEATTLE, April 5 (UPI) -- U.S. radio stations dedicated shows to Nirvana's music in remembrance of the 10th anniversary Monday of lead singer Kurt Cobain's death.

Candlelight vigils were held in Cobain's Washington hometown of Aberdeen and at Seattle's Viretta Park, where some of the singer's ashes are scattered, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

New York book publisher Simon & Schuster held a press conference on the anniversary of Cobain's death to announce a new investigation to determine if Cobain had been murdered in 1994. It's believed that the 27-year-old singer committed suicide.

Cobain has been heralded as one of rock's most influential musicians, bringing Seattle's grunge rock scene to the international forefront in the early 1990s.

Cobain's fame earned the singer a spot in the current issue of Rolling Stone entitled "The Immortals: The 50 Greatest Artists of All Time."

Cobain was found dead 10 years ago at his Seattle mansion, where he was pronounced dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after injecting himself with heroin.
