AUSTIN, Texas, March 29 (UPI) -- Broadway actor Patrick Wilson said in Texas he learned a lot about film acting by watching Billy Bob Thornton, his co-star in the new western, "The Alamo."
"We don't sit around talking technique," Wilson told United Press International in a recent phone interview. "I think the greatest actors are the ones that make it look so effortless, and I think that's what Billy Bob Thornton has done here."
Wilson emphasized it is not important audiences know what goes on in an actor's mind or what preparation he does before a performance.
"What is important is that you believe what I do and that you care," he said.
Although Wilson has starred in "Oklahoma!" and "The Full Monty" on Broadway, and in the acclaimed HBO mini-series "Angels in America," "The Alamo" marks his feature-film debut.
"I was very fortunate," he said. "This is my first feature and while most people are just excited to kind of be on screen and say, 'Hey, I'm in a movie!' I think having done theater for a long time and built a reputation there, and coming from 'Angels in America,' I was just blessed to be able to have a great role the first time out."
"The Alamo," co-starring Dennis Quaid and Jason Patric, opens April 9.
