Bobby Brown jailed for no child support

STOUGHTON, Mass., March 25 (UPI) -- A Massachusetts judge has sentenced singer Bobby Brown to 90 days in jail for failure to pay $63,000 in back child support, the Boston Herald said Thursday.

Brown owes the support for two children, Laprincia, 14, and Bobby Jr., 12, who he had with Kim Ward of Stoughton, Mass.

The R&B singer, who was a popular star in the 1980s and 1990s, is married to singer Whitney Houston and the couple have one daughter, Bobbi Kristina, 10.

An emotional Brown claimed he was unemployed and had no money, but Norfolk County Judge Paula Carey told the singer he must pay the entire amount or stay in jail.

"A lot of things have come down on me with my life, my marriage, my children," Brown said to the judge. "I never wanted this to happen."

Brown was released from an Atlanta jail Monday, where he was incarcerated for assaulting Houston, so that he could attend Wednesday's hearing, the eighth time Ward had taken Brown to court for non-payment.
