Daleks may return for new Dr. Who series

LONDON, March 18 (UPI) -- The BBC says it is in talks to bring back the evil Daleks for its new "Doctor Who" series.

Fans feared copyright problems between the BBC and the estate of late science fiction writer Terry Nation, who created the Daleks, would prevent their return.

But television scribe Russell T. Davies told Teletext TV Plus the Dalek negotiations with Nation's estate were "going well" and he expected "a positive result."

"Negotiations are going on all over the place about the monsters, including the Daleks," confirmed a BBC spokeswoman. "We are just waiting to see what comes out."

She also denied reports that actors had already been cast to play the new Doctor Who and his assistant Rose.

Actors Anthony Head and Richard E. Grant, and comedians Alan Davies and Eddie Izzard have all been mentioned for the new Doctor Who role.

Filming for the new series is expected to begin in Cardiff, Wales, this spring, while the show is slated to air on British television in early 2005.
