LONDON, March 17 (UPI) -- Queen Elizabeth Wednesday honored British songwriter and singer Ray Davies as a commander of the British Empire.
Davies, who wrote "Lola," "You Really Got Me" and "Waterloo Sunset," received the medal at Buckingham Palace, the BBC said.
The 59-year-old Davies, the front man for the Kinks, was honored for his contributions to the music world.
He used a walking stick during the ceremony. His leg was injured in a January mugging in New Orleans. Davies was shot when he chased two men who had snatched a friend's handbag.
"I will get better, and I'll be back jumping around onstage," Davies told the BBC. But he also said, in a contradictory statement, "There is a lot of doubt whether I can perform in the near future."
Davies said he was accepting his CBE on behalf of his fans.
