NEW YORK, March 11 (UPI) -- A divorce court reality show for Liza Minnelli and David Gest has been axed after Gest chose instead to tell his story to U.S. TV newsmagazine "Dateline."
The multi-night show from "Celebrity Justice" producer Harvey Levin would have paid Minnelli and Gest millions of dollars to tell their versions of their bizarre and tumultuous marriage, the New York Post reported Thursday, with the couple being bound by the TV jury's decision.
Gest, however, squelched production when he chose to be interviewed on NBC's "Dateline" in February. During the show, Gest told of the abuse he suffered from his wife, which he said has resulted in the necessity of dozens of daily injections into his head.
Minnelli, who has called Gest's story ridiculous, has hired the ex-reality show's consultant, Israel Rubin, to head her legal team.
Levin had recruited Rubin, a retired state appellate judge, to advise lawyers for both sides of the dispute and set ground rules for the show.
