NEW YORK, March 11 (UPI) -- Air America Radio is set to launch its talk radio network March 31 aimed at countering conservatism in broadcasting by giving a voice to liberal Americans.
"Clearly, the great preponderance of talk radio in America today is right-wing oriented," Mark Walsh, Air America Radio's chief executive, said Thursday in the Chicago Tribune. "We feel that there are listeners out there begging for entertainment, comedy and information that varies and is more robust than that which is available today."
The network initially will be available in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and San Francisco, reaching about 20 percent of U.S. radio listeners.
"The O'Franken Factor" with humorist Al Franken, the centerpiece of the network's programming, will air from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily, opposite the conservative Rush Limbaugh.
Franken said his show will combine listener calls, news commentary and packaged comedy pieces centered around exposing what he claims are lies propagated by conservatives.
