Barrymore delighted to play bad girl

NEW YORK, March 5 (UPI) -- Actress Drew Barrymore says she doesn't think one has to be ruthless to be successful in Hollywood -- or anywhere else.

"I don't relate to the 'eliminate whatever's in your way' theory myself, as a human being," the "Fifty First Dates" and "Charlie's Angels" star told UPI.

"I'm the opposite," she confided. "I will make myself miserable in order to not make someone else miserable."

In the dark comedy "Duplex," which is just out on DVD and home video, Barrymore and Ben Stiller play a New York couple who will stop at nothing to get rid of an upstairs tenant so they can have her apartment.

"I liked playing a character (unlike myself)," Barrymore said. "That was enjoyable to me to do something different than myself."

So, she liked exploring her evil side?

"Yeah, totally," she said. "I'm such a freaking nice person. It was fine to be a little naughty."
