'Spamalot' to debut in Chicago

CHICAGO, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- A musical based on the film comedy "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" and directed by Mike Nichols will debut in Chicago next winter.

Producers of "Monty Python's Spamalot" said the musical will have its world premiere at Chicago's Shubert Theatre on Dec. 21, 2004, and run through Jan. 16, 2005, prior to its planned run on Broadway.

"Spamalot" is part of the Neumann Homes Broadway In Chicago 2004-2005 season series.

The musical has a script by Eric Idle based on the screenplay of "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" by Monty Python creators: Idle, Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones and Michael Palin.

The comic retelling of the classic King Arthur story will have an entirely new score, featuring music and lyrics by Idle and John Du Prez, along with three songs from the 1975 film.
