Stones top 2004 Rock Rich List

NEW YORK, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen and The Eagles top Rolling Stone magazine's list of the richest rockers of 2004.

The Rolling Stones secured the No. 1 spot with an estimated worth of $84.1 million.

A lucrative concert tour, an exclusive deal with Best Buy for concert DVDs and a live HBO special helped the band move up from the No. 2 spot in 2003.

Following close behind was the Boss with $81.7 million.

Springsteen reportedly received a guarantee of 70 percent of the potential gross from his latest concert tour. He also largely profited because very little money was spent on staging his shows and because his fans bought plenty of souvenirs and merchandise at his concerts.

Soaring into the No. 3 spot on the list was The Eagles with $62.9 million.

Last year, the group demanded a $750,000 guarantee per concert. This year, it was more than $1 million and ticket prices were up almost 20 dollars.

The Eagles also reportedly garnered $10 million in advance payments for the latest greatest-hits package. Also, like Springsteen, The Eagles' shows don't incur expensive lighting, rigging and production costs.

Rounding out the top five music moneymakers were the country girl group Dixie Chicks with $39.8 million and heavy metal icons Metallica with $39.1 million.
